Previously, I’ve written about there, their and they’re and how to remember the difference between them (see blogs from from 11 May and 2 November).
As a follow-up, here is an alternative way to remember them – by making up little poems.
The first line of each poem is said as if you are spelling the word.
T.H.E.R.E.
There is a good film on TV
T.H.E.I.R.
He’s just crashed their nice new car!
T.H.E.Y. apostrophe R.E.
They’re going out to buy a chocolate cake for tea.
I made these ones up on a long train journey home…but you can make up your own poems as well, preferably something that is meaningful to you. For example, if you’re a Beatles fan:
T.H.E.R.E
There is a song called Let It Be.
And so on…I’d love to hear your versions – don’t hesitate to write them in the comments section below!
