There, their and they're...

Previously, I’ve talked about there, their and they’re and how to remember the difference between them (see blog from 11 May). As a follow-up, here is an alternative way to remember them – by making up little poems.

The first line of each poem is said as if you are spelling the word.

T.H.E.R.E.
There is a good film on TV

T.H.E.I.R.
He’s just crashed their nice new car!

T.H.E.Y. apostrophe R.E.
They’re going out to buy a chocolate cake for tea.

 

I made these ones up on a long train journey home…but you can make up your own poems as well, preferably something that is meaningful to you. For example, if you’re a Beatles fan:

T.H.E.R.E
There is a song called Let It Be.
